AetherPlayer — Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

AetherPlayer and the AetherPlayer Companion browser extension are made by Component Concepts, Inc. (“we”). They do not collect, transmit or sell personal data. There is no account, no analytics, and no server of ours that your computer talks to while you watch.

The browser extension

It works on any website with a video player. So that it can, the extension asks for access to every website when you install it; your browser describes this as being able to “read and change all your data on all websites”. It uses that access only to find video players on the pages you visit. It is on for every site by default, and you can switch it off for any site, or for every site except the ones you choose, from the extension’s popup or from AetherPlayer’s settings. On a site you have switched off, the extension runs nothing at all.

When you click the ✦ on a video, or take a video fullscreen, the extension hands a copy of the video data your browser has already downloaded to the AetherPlayer application running on the same computer, over a local connection that does not leave that computer. It also passes the video’s playback position and its position on screen, so the enhanced picture lines up with the page and stays in step with it. The application uses that data to display an enhanced picture and discards it; nothing is written to disk and nothing is uploaded.

Video protected by digital rights management is never read. It plays normally.

The extension stores, in your browser’s own extension storage on your computer: whether the extension is switched on, which sites you have switched off, and the last settings the AetherPlayer application sent it. Nothing else. Removing the extension removes them.

The desktop application

AetherPlayer runs on your computer and processes video there. It keeps its settings, its window state and its performance log on your computer, and information about your graphics card that it measures in order to choose settings for it. None of that is sent anywhere.

Children

AetherPlayer is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

Any change to this policy will appear here with a new date. If a future version of AetherPlayer ever sends anything from your computer, it will ask first, it will be switchable off, and this policy will say exactly what it sends before it ships.
